Tax
Residents are taxed on statutory income above the annual threshold, with a higher rate on income above the upper band, and payroll deductions for education tax, NHT and NIS come out of pay. Jamaica also taxes residents on income from sources outside the Island as it arises or accrues, whether or not it is received in Jamaica, so foreign-source income is not automatically outside the net. Time in the country matters: expatriates assigned to Jamaica who stay beyond the stated day count are treated as resident, while non-residents are taxed differently and without the threshold.
