St Kitts and Nevis runs a long-established citizenship-by-investment programme, and the records here cover the investment routes plus the ordinary work-permit path. The investment routes lead to citizenship rather than residence, so they sit apart from the work-permit route, which is for people with a job offer from a local employer.

Investors who want citizenship rather than a residence permit Families including a spouse, dependent children and supported parents People who do not plan to move to the islands Buyers comfortable holding a property for the required period Applicants who prefer a contribution route with no property to manage

## Tax

Individuals are not charged income tax in St Kitts and Nevis, whether the income arises locally or abroad; income tax applies to companies. The old charging provision that once reached foreign-source income of individuals was disapplied for non-company persons, and the revenue department confirms individuals are outside the income tax. VAT is a separate matter and applies at the standard rate. This is general context, not advice on your own situation, and immigration status and tax are handled separately.

Standard rules

### [Individual income tax and foreign-source income](https://settleanywhere.com/countries/saint-kitts-and-nevis/tax/#tax-kn-individual-income-tax)

**Details**

- On: Income of persons (companies still charged)

The Income Tax Act charges tax on persons' income arising in or outside the State, but section 3(3) states that the charge does not apply to income accruing on or after 1 May 1980 to any person other than a company; no personal income tax rate is therefore applied to individuals' foreign-source income.

#### Taxed on

Income of persons (companies still charged)

#### Exclusions

- Companies remain chargeable.

#### Tax residence

Section 3(1) provides that earned income arising outside the State of a person not ordinarily resident or not domiciled is taxable only when received in the State, and that a person in the State for a temporary purpose with under six months' residence is not taxed on it; this section is disapplied for non-company persons from 1 May 1980.

#### Visas

Citizenship by investment confers no separate tax status; the Act applies to citizens and residents alike.

#### Other taxes

Wages are subject to Social Security contributions.
