- **Who can apply:** Any passport
- **Tax angle:** Tax relief (Dominica: resident but not ordinarily resident individuals taxed on foreign-source income only when received: Under section 8(2) of the Income Tax Act, an individual who is resident but not ordinarily resident in Dominica has assessable income that includes income accrued from sources outside Dominica only to the extent that such income is received in Dominica.)

## Key facts

## Time and long term

**Renewal: Renewable**

Work permits are valid for one year and renewed. A permit covering several years is issued only when earlier years were missed: a person who applied for five consecutive years and never received the permits gets one permit valid for five years after paying the processing fees for the other four years. Renewals do not need a new medical certificate.

**Permanent residence: After 5 years of residence**

Permanent residence needs residence or employment on the island for five years (at least five work permits), and the grant is at the government's discretion.

**Where to apply: Inside the country**

The applicant is expected to be on the island while the permit is processed, because the Ministry may require an in-person background check; processing from abroad is considered only in exceptional cases.
