# Moving to Bhutan

4 ways to move to Bhutan in our guide: 1 investor route, 1 work visa, 1 student visa, 1 spouse visa.

No digital nomad visa. Smallest investment: [Investor permit](https://settleanywhere.com/countries/bhutan/investor-permit/), BTN 15M+ ≈ $156k. Checked against official sources on 12 October 2026.

**Smallest investment needed:** **BTN 15M+ ≈ $156k** Investor permit

**Longest first stay:** **5 years** Student visa

Bhutan is a small, controlled country where most foreign residents arrive through a specific permit tied to an approved business, an employer, or a recognised institution. The system is orderly but narrow: each route has its own gatekeeper, and the permit you hold defines what you may do and how long you may stay.

Foreign investors cleared as promoters of an approved Foreign Direct Investment Professionals and skilled workers with an employer willing to obtain labour approval first Students enrolled in a credit-giving programme at a recognised Bhutanese institution People who prefer a small, structured system with clear permit boundaries Those planning a long-term base in or around the Gelephu Mindfulness City
